Upcoming “Batman Beyond” Episodes Scheduled To Debut On The Hub Network

Details for upcoming episodes of the classic Batman Beyond animated series scheduled to debut on The Hub have been released. The Hub network is the rebranding of the Discovery Kids network, and is being marketed as a new product. Below is the schedule of classic Batman Beyond episodes slated to air on the network next week.

Batman Beyond will be pre-empted on Friday, December 17th, 2010 due to special programming on The Hub. Additionally, the network will be taking Batman Beyond back to the beginning starting on Monday, December 21st, 2010 with the series opener “Rebirth, Part One” airing at both 7:30am (ET) and 5:30pm (ET).

The Hub, a multi-platform joint venture between Discovery Communications and Hasbro, Inc., features original programming as well as content from Discovery’s library of children’s educational programming; from Hasbro’s portfolio of entertainment and educational properties built during the past 90 years; and from leading third-party producers worldwide. The Hub lineup includes animated and live-action series, specials and game shows, with the network extending its content through a robust and engaging online presence. The Hub launched on Sunday, October 10th, 2010, reaching approximately 60 million U.S. households.

Teletoon Retro Planning Special Marathon For “Batman: The Animated Series”

Teletoon Retro is currently planning to schedule a special marathon of classic Batman: The Animated Series episodes as a result of a recent fan survey the network conducted. The network recently held the “Teletoon Retro Hall of Fame” event, allowing viewers to choose their top five favorite characters from the network line-up most deserving. The winning characters would each receive special marathons of their respective series, the marathons currently scheduled to be held at the end of December 2010.

Batman was one of the top five characters chosen and, in effect, the network is tentatively scheduled to hold a marathon of Batman: The Animated Series episodes later this month. The other top-five characters in the “Teletoon Retro Hall of Fame” vote include Bugs Bunny, Scooby-Doo, Optimus Prime and Spider-Man. Each respective character will also receive a special dedicated marathon.

Teletoon Retro currently airs the first 52 episodes of Batman: The Animated Series in daily rotation at 2am (ET). Stay tuned for further schedule updates and exclusive content here soon at The World’s Finest.

Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill will reprise their respective roles as Batman and Joker in Batman: Arkham City, the highly-anticipated sequel to the critically acclaimed Batman: Arkham Asylum video game, along with Emmy Award-winning Batman writer Paul Dini again contributing to the story. The initial Batman: Arkham City press release, and trailer, are both available here. Further details on this upcoming video game release are expected in the near future, including a full-length trailer.

New Details For Upcoming “Batman: The Brave And The Bold” Comic Collection

Originally called Batman: The Brave and The Bold – The Night of the Batmen, the forthcoming third trade paperback collection of the Batman: The Brave and The Bold comic title, based on the Cartoon Network animated series of the same name, is now titled Batman: The Brave and The Bold – Emerald Knight. This latest six-issue collection features stories by Sholly Fisch and Landry Walker with artwork by Robert Pope and Eric Jones. DC Comics provides the initial details below, with specific details on the issues collected to be released shortly.

BATMAN: THE BRAVE AND THE BOLD: EMERALD KNIGHT TP

Synopsis: Batman takes on crime with the help of DCs greatest heroes based on the acclaimed Cartoon Network animated series. The all-ages title based on the acclaimed animated series on Cartoon Network continues as Batman battles evil with the help of some of DCs greatest heroes, including Green Arrow, Wonder Woman, Martian Manhunter and more. This fun new collection includes a Valentines Day caper story and a race to solve a mystery pitting the Dark Knight against The Flash to see whos the worlds fastest detective.

The collection is scheduled to arrive in May 2011 with a price of $12.99US. The final cover art work, including revised colors and trade dress, will also be released shortly.

“The All-New Batman: The Brave And The Bold” Sales Numbers For Debut Issue

The first issue of the The All-New Batman: The Brave and The Bold series from DC Comics, the revamped comic title based on the acclaimed Batman: The Brave and The Bold animated series, saw an increase in readership with its debut compared to the final issue of previous volume. The All-New Batman: The Brave and The Bold #1 saw sales improve nearly 40% over Batman: The Brave and The Bold #22, the final issue of the previous comic title based on the acclaimed animated series. Batman: The Brave and The Bold #22 arrived on shelves in October 2010, with The All-New Batman: The Brave and The Bold #1 following quickly behind with a November 2010 debut. Sales numbers for both issues can be seen below.

The Batman: The Brave and The Bold comic title averaged roughly 6,200 in sales in the last few months prior to the title’s relaunch.

“DC Showcase Animated Original Shorts” Home Video Release Retains Sales


According to various home media retailing outlets and independent research, the recent DC Showcase Animated Original Shorts collection, anchored by the exclusive Superman/Shazam!: The Return Of Black Adam animated short, held tight in its second week of sales, slipping just 50% from its previous week of sales. The release moved an estimated 35,000 DVD copies in its second week, along with an additional 12,000 units in Blu-ray editions in the same timeframe, resulting in an estimated 47,000 home video units sold for the week ending November 21st, 2010. This brings the two week total sales, combining both DVD and Blu-ray sales, to nearly 142,000 units moved.

Sales for direct-to-video animated features, especially titles featuring comic book-based characters, tend to fall an average of 60 – 70% in the second week, but the DC Showcase Animated Original Shorts collection managed to retain a higher numbers of sales in its second week. For comparison, the recent DC Universe Animated Original Movie Superman/Batman: Apocalypse saw a 67% drop in sales for its second week, though has still moved over 500,000 DVD and Blu-ray units since its debut. Note the sales numbers above do not take into account rental numbers, OnDemand numbers, or legal download numbers.
