“Green Lantern: Emerald Knights” Feature Shines Bright On Home Video Sales Charts

According to various home media retailing outlets and independent research, the new Green Lantern: Emerald Knights direct-to-video animated feature performed very well on the home video market. The latest DC Universe Animated Original Movie title moved over 230,000 units in its first week, with 101,000 of those sales coming from DVD and 129,000 from the Blu-ray format. Blu-ray sales accounted for 56% of total Green Lantern: Emerald Knights home video sales. In terms of chart placement, the animated feature hit #3 on respective Blu-ray and combined DVD/Blu-ray charts, and placed #7 on the DVD sales chart. These sales numbers are for the week ending June 12th, 2011. Keep in mind the sales numbers above do not take into account rental numbers, OnDemand numbers, or legal download numbers.

The increase in Blu-ray sales for this DC Universe Animated Original Movie title over its DVD counterpart is not a surprise, given the lack of regularly available Two-Disc Special Edition DVD release for Green Lantern: Emerald Knights.

To compare, the previous “DC Universe Animated Original Movie” title All-Star Superman debuted with an estimated 187,000 copies sold on DVD and Blu-ray editions sold during its debut week in February 2011.
