First Clip From “Necessary Evil: Super-Villains of DC Comics” Documentary Released

Warner Home Video has provided the first clip from the upcoming Necessary Evil: Super-Villains of DC Comics, an all-new documentary produced by Warner Bros. Home Entertainment and DC Entertainment for Blu-ray Combo Pack, DVD, and digital distribution this Friday, October 25th, 2013. The documentary, narrated by Christopher Lee, spotlights the pivotal role villains play in the lives of DC Comics’ biggest heroes. Necessary Evil: Super-Villains of DC Comics, which will feature clips from DC Comics-based animated productions past and present, ties in to the publisher’s current villain-themed comic initiatives and storylines. Necessary Evil: Super-Villains of DC Comics

Synopsis: Necessary Evil: Super-Villains of DC Comics explores the thin line between right and wrong, the nature of evil and how super-villains can reflect society’s dark side as well as our own personal fears. It also offers keen insight as to the reasons why comic book fans are so fascinated by the very characters they hope to see defeated. Featuring interviews with such luminaries as directors Richard Donner (Superman), Guillermo del Toro (Pacific Rim) and Zack Snyder (Man of Steel), the film focuses on DC Comics’ most terrifying villains, including The Joker, Lex Luthor, Bane, Black Adam, Black Manta, Catwoman, Darkseid, Deathstroke, Doomsday, General Zod, Sinestro, the Suicide Squad, and more.

The clip from the film features director Guillermo Del Toro, DC Entertainment Chief Creative Office Geoff Johns and renowned writers James Robinson and Paul Dini discussing the mirroring of a hero’s characteristics in his fiercest villains.

The Necessary Evil: Super-Villains of DC Comics documentary is directed by Scott Devine and J.M. Kenny, narrated by Christopher Lee, written by Scott Devine and Jack Mulligan, and produced by Scott Devine, J.M. Kenny. The documentary features appearances by Zack Snyder, Guillermo Del Toro, Kevin Conroy, Richard Donner, Andrea Romano, Geoff Johns, Jim Lee, and others.

Necessary Evil: Super-Villains of DC Comics will hit shelves October 25th, 2013 on Blu-ray and DVD, from Warner Home Video and DC Entertainment, for the suggested retail price of $14.96 (DVD) and $24.96 (Blu-ray). New Image Released From Upcoming “Justice League: War” Animated Feature

Warner Home Video has released a new image from the upcoming direct-to-video Justice League: War animated feature. The Flash is featured in the newly-release content. The upcoming DC Universe Animated Original Movie title, scheduled for release come Early 2014 from Warner Home Video, will be an adaptation of the “Justice League: Origin” storyline recently published by DC Comics. “Justice League: Origin,” written by Geoff Johns with artwork by Jim Lee and Scott Williams, kicked off the comic publisher’s current ongoing “The New 52” comic-line initiative. Main cast details for Justice League: War include Christopher Gorham as The Flash, Jason O’Mara as Batman, Alan Tudyk as Superman, Michelle Monaghan as Wonder Woman, Justin Kirk as Green Lantern, Shemar Moore as Cyborg, Sean Astin as Shazam, George Newburn as Steve Trevor, and Steve Blum as Darkseid. Jay Oliva is confirmed as director for Justice League: War, with Heath Corson adapting the original “Justice League: Origin” comic book storyline.

Teletoon Superfan Fridays Airing Two-Part “Batman: The Dark Knight Returns” Animated Feature

The Canadian network Teletoon is slated to air Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, Part One and Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, Part Two over two consecutive weeks as part of Teletoon Superfan Friday programming block. The 2012 direct-to-video Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, Part One animated feature is slated to air Friday, October 18th, 2013 at 9:00pm (ET/PT) on the Canadian network Teletoon, followed by the 2013 direct-to-video follow-up Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, Part Two on Friday, October 25th, 2013 at 9:00pm (ET/PT). The weekly Superfan Friday programming block on Teletoon, airing Fridays starting at 7:00pm (ET/PT), features a mix of super-hero and sci-fi based programs.

Adapting the acclaimed 1980s comic series, Batman: The Dark Knight Returns finds the Dark Knight, along with new sidekick Robin, battling iconic villains and facing down Superman. Both Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, Part One and Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, Part Two titles fall under the DC Universe Animated Original Movie line from Warner Home Video, Warner Bros. Animation, and DC Entertainment. The DC Universe Animated Original Movie line is a regular fixture on Teletoon, with assorted titles airing multiple times throughout the year.

Details For Upcoming “Batman: The Brave And The Bold – The Complete First Season” Blu-ray Release

Warner Archive and Warner Home Video have released official details for the recently-announced Batman: The Brave and The Bold – The Complete First Season Blu-ray title. The Blu-ray release, coming November 5th, 2013 from the Warner Archive imprint, will be the first Blu-ray for the acclaimed Cartoon Network animated series. The title will be available through the official Warner Archive website, along with some online retail outlets, for $24.95. “Superman 75” Animated Short Availability Goes Wide, Multi-Platform Rollout Schedule

The animated short “Superman 75,” by Man of Steel director Zack Snyder and animation producer Bruce Timm, is now available wide for all online outlets. The animated short was previewed over the weekend at the 2013 New York Comic-Con. Directed by Snyder and produced by Timm, the two-minute animated short moves through highlights of the character’s many incarnations, from comics, to movies, video games, and more. The “Superman 75” animated short will officially debut on Cartoon Network on Wednesday, October 16th, 2013 at 6:58pm (ET/PT), followed by a special encore presentation during the weekend DC Nation programming block. The hour-long block airs each weekend morning starting at 10:00am (ET/PT), with the animated short airing during both the October 19th, 2013 and October 20th, 2013 installments. The “Superman 75” animated short will also be included on the Blu-ray and DVD home video release of the summer theatrical feature film Man of Steel, hitting shelves come November 2013.
