The World's Finest Presents
Episode #051 - The Man Who Killed Batman
Original Airdate - February 1st, 1993

While third-rate mob stumble-bum Sidney DeBris was acting as look-out for drug-runners, Batman surprised him on a warehouse roof. The two struggled, and Sid's bumbling caused Batman to pitch off the roof and into a shed of explosive gas. After the ensuing fire, the only thing found was Batman's cape and cowl. It seemed Sidney had done the impossible and become the man who killed Batman.

Quotes
THORNE: I hear you've made a name for yourself. What is it they're calling you? Ah yes! "The man who killed Batman"
--
THUG: Sid's taking on the Batman! The little weasel's got guts! No brains, but guts!
--
SID: I didn't mean it! He came right at me and I was just trying to get away and he went over the side. Boom! Woosh! Fired! I'm sorry. . .
THUG #1: No one could have lived through that.
THUG #2: You know what this means? Sid the Squid just offed the Batman.
--
BIG THUG: Suddenly I'm thinking 'if I take down the guy who took down Batman then I'll be the toughest guy in town.'
SID: Hey! You got my vote, chief!
--
BULLOCK: Hey, Montoya. Word's comin' in off the streets on a homicide victim.
MONTOYA: They have an I.D?
BULLOCK (Saddened): Yeah. It's, uh. . . it's Batman.
--
BULLOCK: Don't I know you from someplace?
HARLEEN: I think I served you a subpoena once. It was a small subpoena.
--
JOKER: Please, allow me the honor to shake the hand of the man who did the impossible. The man who. . . Killed Batman.
--
JOKER: Where is he!? He's never been this late before! There's a certain rhythm to these things. . . I cause trouble, he shows up, we have some laughs and the game starts all over again. Only now thanks to you. . .
JOKER POINTS AT SID.
JOKER: I have this terrible feeling he's really not coming. . .
--
HARLEY: You know what's great about you, puddin'? You really put the 'fun' in 'funeral'.
--
JOKER: Dear friends. . .Today is the day that the clown cried. And he cries not for the passing of one man, but for the death of a dream. The dream that he would someday taste the ultimate victory over his hated enemy. For it was the Batman who made me the happy soul I am today. How I agonized over the perfect way to thank him for that. Perhaps with a cyanide pie in the face. Or an exploding whoopie-cushion playfully planted in the Batmobile. But those dreams were dashed by the weaselly little gunsel sitting there in our midst. The cowardly insignificant gonif who probably got lucky when Batman slipped on the slime trail this loser left behind him. This mound of diseased hyena filth who's not fit to lick the dirt from my spats. . . ! But I digress. The time for sorrow has passed. It's time to look to a future filled with smiles. And I'll be smiling again just as soon as we take that man there and slap him in that box there and roll him into that vat of acid there! . . . We'll that was fun! Who's for Chinese?
--
BATMAN: You're still an accomplice to Thorne's gang.
SID: Heh heh. Guess I can't win for losing, huh?
BATMAN: I don't know. In the right environment a man with your dangerous reputation could get a lot of respect. . .

Review: This was quite a humorous episode to watch, especially the Joker's small funeral procession for Batman. It was actually deep to see that Joker was actually saddened by Batman's death for now "Crime has no punch line".

The idea of Batman being killed and not resurfacing for awhile was very well done and a good choice for a Batman episode. It was sort of like the James Bond movie You Only Live Twice where Bond fakes his death to make the bad guys think they were off scot-free.

The animation wasn't bad, but the characters were strange looking. Batman was fine, but Joker looked quite strange at times and Rupert Thorne's lips get really big at times. The animation was good though, especially when Batman hits Thorne off screen and his body twirls past Sid and the camera. It's really funny and well done.
