Quotes
TWITCH: An hour I've been waiting. I don't know why Nikko wanted me to meet him up here anyway.
BATMAN: He didn't twitch.
TWITCH TURNS AROUND TO SEE BATMAN STANDING BEHIND HIM.
BATMAN: I did.
--
THUG: May the shadows live forever.
THE TWO GRAB THEIR THROATS AND GAS RISES FROM THEIR MASKS.
--
GORDON: Is there anything you don't know about? I only assigned that detail an hour ago!
GORDON TURNS AROUND AND BATMAN IS GONE.
GORDON: One of these days I'm going to nail his feet to the ground!
--
BULLOCK: Who-- who are you?
FOX: What do you want?
VERTIGO: The first thing I want is for you to stop asking stupid questions.
--
VERTIGO: The Batman! I suppose this had to happen sooner or later. . .
--
BATMAN: Alfred! You're brilliant!
ALFRED: Yes. So I've heard. . .
--
BATMAN: Just who's side are you on?
TALIA: That would be telling.
--
TALIA BRUSHES A RAT OFF OF BATMAN'S CHEST.
TALIA: Filthy creature.
BATMAN COMES AROUND.
BATMAN: I've been called worse. What happened to-- My mask! What have you done with it?
TALIA: easier to clean your wounds this way.
BATMAN: Then you know-- you know that I'm--
TALIA: Hush! Who knows what other ears may be listening.
--
BATMAN: Your little dizzifying trick won't stop us, Vertigo.
VERTIGO: Maybe, maybe not. You see, you'll have to get across this room alive. That may prove difficult considering this entire laboratory has been rigged to destroy you. Oh, and in case you think once I go my disorienting effect will go with me, think again. I've planted duplicate Vertigo devices throughout the room to maintain the effect once I've departed. Goodbye. . . And good luck. You'll need it.
VERTIGO LEAVES. THE DOUBLE VERTIGO EFFECT OCCURS.
BATMAN: You okay?
TALIA: My contact lenses! I lost them when we fell! They counter the distortion effect. Without them I'm as helpless as you.
BATMAN: I don't do helpless.
--
TALIA: Wait! I can't let you leave like this!
BATMAN SMILES.
TALIA: Not with the drill.
TALIA POINTS A GUN AT BATMAN.
BATMAN: I thought I finally knew which side you were on. I should have known better. . .
BATMAN SLIPS A SMALL DEVICE IN THE DRILL'S BARREL.
BATMAN: . . . Considering that you knew where everything was in the monastery. How could you have unless you were one of them?
A HELI-PLANE FLIES IN AND TALIA GRABS ONTO THE LADDER
TALIA: I am truly sorry, Batman! It could have been. . . sweet!
THE HELI-PLANE FLIES AWAY
BATMAN (yelling): This is not over!
--
TALIA: The Batman! He sabotaged it somehow!
RA'S: So even in defeat, the detective manages to achieve some small measure of victory. As you said, detective. . . "This is not over."

Review: This episode is interesting, but it sort of gives you a headache to watch all of the Vertigo effects. It was great to see Batman working with Talia without him knowing that she was the daughter of his soon to be worst enemy. Count Vertigo was also a great character, a sort of ex-Nazi type villain with a hypno-eye.

The ending was the best past, with Batman sabotaging the drill, Talia testing it, the drill blowing up, and the introduction of Ra's Al Ghul. This is one of those endings that the fans love for it doesn't show his face right away, but you know that it's him. There is the excellent intro to the Demon's theme music too when the small ending scene begins which just adds to the effect.

The animation was the chunky style and detailed, but Batman's face seemed off at times, almost as if the job was rushed. The Vertigo effect made up for this though.
