The World's Finest Presents
Batman 75 - "Batman: Strange Days"

Journey back to the 1930s for this animated take on the adventures of the original Batman!

DC Entertainment and DC Comics released the animated short "Batman: Strange Days" in 2014 as part of the Batman 75th anniversary celebrations. The nearly three-minute short-form adventure provides an animated look at the original 1930s era Batman. "Batman: Strange Days" was storyboarded, written, produced, and directed by Bruce Timm (Batman: The Animated Series, Superman: The Animated Series, Justice League Unlimited, DC Universe Animated Original Movie titles).

The animated short was created as part of DC Entertainment, Warner Bros. Entertainment and DC Comics' combined celebration efforts to mark the 75th anniversary of Batman’s first appearance in the 1939 comic Detective Comics #27. DC Entertainment also provided a description of the "Batman: Strange Days" animated short and also talked to Timm about its production.

A brand new short from producer Bruce Timm featuring a lost tale from Batman’s past, the Dark Knight tracks a strange giant to the mysterious lair of Dr. Hugo Strange.

"It's kind of a throwback to Batman's origins," said Timm. "I always wanted to do Batman as an actual period piece literally in 1939 - the year the Batman first appeared on newsstands."

"It's kind of based on the earliest version of Batman that Bob Kane did," he added.

Timm said that since Hugo Strange was one of the first Batman villains in the comics, and given his recent elevated status in the Dark Knight's mythos, he was a perfect fit to be featured opposite Batman in "Strange Days."

In terms of production, Timm was heavily involved in the short's storyboard to make sure the story was planned out and executed properly. "I had to be very, very detailed in the boards in terms of what I wanted it to look like," he said, adding that he used digital effects to fine-tune the final product and give the short that "old school" look.

The short, produced by Warner Bros. Animation, features the voice work of Kevin Conroy, Tara Strong, and Brian George. Christopher Drake provides the score.

"Batman: Strange Days" debuted April 9th, 2014 on Cartoon Network under the DC Nation programming banner, and was then released wide to all media outlets later in the week.
