Review
Taking a bold new direction with the episode's teasers, "Revenge of the Reach" offers the first teaser to end with a cliff-hanger, and the classic teasing promise of "To Be Continued!" It holds a second surprise as well, as it's not the usual brief superhero romp, but rather, this focuses around a team called The Challenger of the Unknown, a classic team of adventurers that are exploring a mysterious meteorite. Although there isn't much to the teaser to tell us much about these characters, it ends on a shocking note with the introduction of the frightening parasites known as Starro that will leave you anxiously awaiting the next installment.

The main story of the episode is more the standard fare, but that's not to sound negative. Delving further into the saga of the Blue Beetle, Jaime Reyes is dramatically introduced to the origins of his Scarab through the Green Lanterns. Coincidentally at a time in which the Reach, the Scarab creators, have decided to attack the Green Lanterns in vengeance for a war fought long ago.

Even though the Scarabs seem over-powered with their ability to materialize tentacles of never-ending length, the episode comes out as the most solid of the season so far with the further evolution of Jaime Reyes as a hero, with Batman finally agreeing he is capable of solo missions. It's even more worth noting that this is the best depiction of the Green Lanterns so far as it actually shows them as skilled and capable fighters, rather than being defeated in an instance or retreating at the first sign of trouble.

Once they brought in the Reach's army, I didn't expect much in the way of varied appearances with the other Scarab hosts, but fortunately they went the extra mile to design some very detailed and exciting looking aliens for this purpose. All of these elements come together to make what is truly a highly recommended episode, especially if you've been interested in the mythos of Jaime Reyes!
