OVERVIEW

The Basics:
Batman Unlimited: Mechs vs Mutants is a direct-to-video animated superhero film. Released for Digital Download on August 30th, 2016, and then for DVD on September 13th, 2016, the all-ages animated movie features Batman and a band of DC Comics heroes doing battle against The Penguin, Mr. Freeze and a collection of mutated versions of Batman's biggest foes. The animated film is inspired by the Mattel toyline of the same name and is the follow-up to 2015's Batman Unlimited: Animal Instincts and Batman Unlimited: Monster Mayhem.

Synopsis:
When evil scientist Mr. Freeze activates his latest invention on two of Gotham City’s most formidable criminals – Killer Croc and Bane – things go from bad to worse. Turning them into super-sized mutant monsters, the Super-Villains start bashing through the streets of Gotham City with no end in sight. It’s up to the Caped Crusader and his Super Hero team to save the day by putting the giant robot mechs in their place – but it will be an uphill battle as they face off against enormous foes.

History
After a tease of the Batman Unlimited brand name at the 2014 Licensing Expo, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment officially announced the Batman Unlimited animation initiative on January 29th, 2015. Unveiled as part of a new animation/toyline endeavor between Warner Bros. Consumer Products, DC Entertainment, and Warner Bros. Animation, Batman Unlimited: Animal Instincts was the first installment of what is planned to be an ongoing series of animated programming based on the Mattel toyline of the same name. The initiative includes at least three animated features (including this one - Batman Unlimited: Mechs vs Mutants), a series of animated shorts and a mobile app. These projects will be released in conjunction with special action figures tying into said animated content, such as a wave of action figures with accessories, all set to be featured in the Batman Unlimited cartoons. Batman Unlimited: Animal Instincts was the first official project announced and release, followed by a series of Batman Unlimited shorts quickly afterwards which debuted online over a series of months during the year. The animated shorts feature heroes, villains and tech all spotlighted in the animated features and toy line. Batman Unlimited: Mechs vs Mutants, the third Batman Unlimited animated movie, is the fourth project for the Batman Unlimited brand, including the animated shorts.

In terms of tie-ins, DC Comics master costume partner, Rubie's Costumes, will support the Batman Unlimited content with a line of inspired-by dress-up and costumes; along with Thinkway's Batman Unlimited-themed role-play accessories and other related tie-in products.

There was no official press announcement for Batman Unlimited: Mechs vs Mutants from Warner Bros. Home Entertainment, with very limited promotional content and media released. Warner Bros. Home Entertainment bills Batman Unlimited: Mechs vs Mutants as the third installment in the Batman Unlimited trilogy.
