Review: The Interceptor is attacked by some large tentacle creature and naturally our heroes fly outside to take care of it. However they seem to be having difficulty fighting the creature and are unexpectedly assisted by some Star Sapphires who invite the Green Lanterns to their planet for some rest and nourishment. Hal and Kilowog are happy to oblige but Razer and Aya remain on the Interceptor. When they arrive Kilowog notices a familiar face and wanders off looking for her while Hal is accommodated by one of the Star Sapphires named Ga'tia. Kilowog see's his suspicions were correct and he is reunited with Galia from the Lantern's last adventure. Galia then uses her newly acquired power of love to lull Kilowog into a bliss encased within a crystal that will drain his power ring. Ga'tia tries her best to do the same to Hal but the leader of the Star Sapphires can sense who Hal's heart belongs to and sends a power ring to Earth to retrieve Carol Ferris. Carol receives the ring and is re-united with Hal but she is none too happy to see Hal with Ga'tia having assumed he was dead. Meanwhile Razer and Aya begin searching for Kilowog and find the hospitality of the Star Sapphires is quite disingenuous. An emotionally influenced Carol fights with a befuddled Hal while Aya battles other Star Sapphires until Hal snaps Carol out of her power trip. Realizing what she had done rejects the ring and tells Hal to come home when he can before being transported back to Earth. Hal saves Kilowog from his crystallized state and the Lantern's attempt to leave but are attacked by the very creature the encountered earlier. Luckily for them Ga'tia saves them and they make their escape. Hell hath no fury like a Carol Ferris scorned. Her apperance was perhaps too brief and felt like little more than a nod to her history as a Star Sapphire but Jennifer Hale gave another dynamite performance playing the range of Carol's emotions in those few scenes. I had not expected Carol to learn Hal was the Green Lantern of Earth quite so soon but she took the news rather well all things considered. Flirty Hal is always amusing but a Hal trying not to give into a woman's advances is even more entertaining. Good thing he was not caught in a more misleading situation. Then again, that might have made for an even better scene. Aya and Razer's relationship continues to grow in interesting ways. If it was not already apparent to the viewers, it was revealed that Aya based her physical form on Razer's dead beloved. He did not take it well when he realized it himself and one can only wonder how much tension will between them now. Aya was able to show some impressive fighting skill when battling the Star Sapphires and may have revealed that her power of will is as strong or even stronger than an organic Green Lantern. I cannot help but feel sorry for Kilowog. He finally found someone who he cared about after losing his family and she ends up becoming a potential enemy or a slave to her power ring. Poor guy can't catch a break. The fight choreography in this episode was once again a sight to behold. The staff have made the 3D animation work to their advantage in this episode filled with vibrant colors. The animation remains smooth and beautiful and is enough to make a pro-2D viewer such as myself a believer. This was probably just a taste of the involvement of the Star Sapphires in Green Lantern: The Animated Series. We should at least see is Ga'tia will change them for the better or if her Aunt the current leader will continue to use the power of love for her twisted intentions. It was a decent but not one of the better episodes this season. If Carol had not shown up it probably would have felt even less memorable. None the less, I trust this will not be the last we will see of the Star Sapphires and in that regard it was a suitable introduction to them for the series.
