Review

I'm glad WB has seemingly decided to add Volume numbers to the spine, to suggest that there will be future releases--which, at this point, they might as well finish off Season 1 on single disc releases--and I'd whole heartedly agree, but I come back to one thing: the video on these releases, notably this release, is downright horrible. Compression is downright shameful for a DVD and the amount of lines that showed up when characters moved was, to say the least, pathetic. Whoever did the compression job on these should be ashamed of themselves, because for such a new cartoon, it has some of the worst video I've ever seen.

With that said, we move onto the extras: Once again, boring. The Timm intros are the best things on these disc releases, and while they're a bit longer than usual, still leave some to be desired. It's too much to ask for from WB to create a release with full-commentary over the episodes I guess, but it would be nice. After the intros, theres a game, as with most childrens discs--one of the most poorly done games at that. One neat thing is the Easter Egg (found by going to the Watchtower menu, and pressing Right on the remote when highlighting the "Features" button). What was initially was thought to be a Season 2 preview, is, upon further inspection, appears to be some sort of test-footage done for Justice League, with John Stewart in a mask, J'onn with at different design, spliced in footage of Flash from STAS, and some Mr. Fixx looking villain in a giant Gollum robot...

The episodes themselves are decent---Paradise Lost being one of my favorite episodes, War World being my least favorite. And between the lack of fun stuff to watch on the discs, the horrible quality on these episodes, this is the worst DVD I own.
