Review
Fearful Symmetry took a daring turn for JLU as a show, as it was the first
episode not to prominently feature one of the big 7 as a member throughout
the episode. J’ohn appeared but the legwork was done by Supergirl, Green
Arrow and my favorite new member The Question, making his animated debut.
Visually, the show was inspired. The backgrounds looked considerably better
than those of Justice League and the new designs of the show, such as
Captain Atom, Green Arrow and The Question are very cool, perhaps some of
Timm’s best.
The story offered something a little different from the usual JL/JLU
formula, we had a mystery on our hands, and at current time, many plot
threads have been left dangling. What’s up with Professor Hamilton? What
else has the government been conjuring with these super powered beings? Was
that Lex Luthor on the phone?
Despite the fact I dislike Supergirl, and have done since her initial
appearance in Superman: The Animated Series Little Lost Girl this episode
was another strong one for Justice League Unlimited. As previously
mentioned, The Question was beyond cool, as a paranoid mystery solver with a
fine love of pop music. His breaking into the government building was one of
the funniest things ever in the DCU, happily singing along to himself. His
voice, performed by Jeffrey Combs, of The New Batman Adventures Scarecrow
fame, was absolutely perfect. He brought a great, creepy tone to a somewhat
creepy episode.
As many of the fanboys have mentioned, the past references to Superman: The
Animated Series where great, with the reappearance of several Superman
characters including General Hardcastle, Dr. Hamilton and Supergirl herself.
Overall, a very entertaining episode with many intriguing plots threads. |
